About Wholesome Dentistry
Edith Peña, DDS
My name is Dr. Edith Peña, and I graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, one of the best dental schools in the country, in 2008. Before moving to San Antonio so that I could attend school here, I lived in McAllen, Texas, where I was born.
The picture to the right is of my family. My sweet daughter’s name is Sofia, and my energetic son’s name is Isaac. Once in a while, you may see them at our office when you come visit. After all, we are a family practice. My husband’s name is Joel, and he has worked for more than 18 years at AT&T.
I really enjoy dentistry. I like getting to know our patients, and I like the clinical aspect of it. I also like that it is very versatile. One hour I can be heard singing to an anxious child while I do their fillings, and the next, I can be doing cosmetic work on someone’s front teeth. When I am not in the office, I am usually at home cooking for my family, or at the SA Zoo, or DoSeum with my kids.
I am a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, and IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology). I have extensive training in removing amalgam restorations safely, and I am a certified ozone therapist. In addition, I have an interest in minimally invasive dentistry, so I have trained under experts in this field.
Edward Gonzalez, DDS
Dr. Gonzalez was born in The Bronx, in New York City, and was raised in a small town in the state of Puebla, Mexico. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. After working for eight years as an engineer for NASA, Dr. Gonzalez entered the program for dental surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and graduated in 2008. He then joined The United States Air Force, and completed a program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. His passion for dentistry is shown in his everyday procedures.
His hobbies include running and triathlons. He has completed Ironman Cozumel, and over 12 marathons in his career, including marathons in New York, Greece, and Brazil. Dr. Gonzalez is married to his lovely wife Liliana, and together they have one son. Dr. Gonzales is very easy to talk to, and he is a good listener too.
Meet Our Staff
Maureen, who goes by Mo, is our talented hygienist. She can do a thorough dental cleaning while being very gentle. She also gets to know our patients, and remembers families.
In her spare time, Mo likes to travel and cook, and she enjoys the arts.
When you call the office, the person that will most likely answer the phone is Gina. She is extremely nice and always does her very best to help people. She will be the one helping you with appointments and other questions you may have about your visit. She knows most of our patient’s by name, which I think is awesome, and takes a genuine interest in them. She has been with this practice for over half a decade.
Gina is married, and has a daughter, a son, and a beautiful, little granddaughter named Bree. She also has a dog named Remy.
For fun, Gina enjoys watching old, classical movies, and going on RV road trips.
Ruby is our insurance and fees specialist. She will be the one to answer your questions about insurance plans, cost of treatment plans, and any other questions you may have about finances. She is friendly, courteous, and a math whiz.
When she is not in the office, Ruby likes to spend her time taking her little cousins on fun outings, and she loves country music and dancing.
Nayelli is my assistant. She is cheerful, and outgoing, and goes out of her way to make people feel comfortable. She will be the one that will most likely walk you to one of our rooms, seat you, and take your blood pressure.
When she is not at work, Naya (as we like to call her), like to spend time with her son, workout to Zumba dance, read, and learn from others. As she said herself, “I love to enjoy life!”
