About Wholesome Dentistry
Edith Peña, DDS
My name is Dr. Edith Peña, and I graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, one of the best dental schools in the country, in 2008. Before moving to San Antonio so that I could attend school here, I lived in McAllen, Texas, where I was born.
The picture to the right is of my family. My sweet daughter’s name is Sofia, and my energetic son’s name is Isaac. Once in a while, you may see them at our office when you come visit. After all, we are a family practice. My husband’s name is Joel, and he has worked for more than 18 years at AT&T.
I really enjoy dentistry. I like getting to know our patients, and I like the clinical aspect of it. I also like that it is very versatile. One hour I can be heard singing to an anxious child while I do their fillings, and the next, I can be doing cosmetic work on someone’s front teeth. When I am not in the office, I am usually at home cooking for my family, or at the SA Zoo, or DoSeum with my kids.
I am a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, and IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology). I have extensive training in removing amalgam restorations safely, and I am a certified ozone therapist. In addition, I have an interest in minimally invasive dentistry, so I have trained under experts in this field.
Edward Gonzalez, DDS
Dr. Gonzalez was born in The Bronx, in New York City, and was raised in the small town of Piaxtla in the state of Puebla, Mexico. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York. After working for five years as an engineer for NASA in Houston, DR. Gonzalez entered the program for dental surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and graduated in 2008. He then joined the United States Air Force, and completed a program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. In this program, he learned advanced surgical skills, and he has continued to combine these skills with his knowledge in biological dentistry, for the benefit of the patients.
His hobbies include running, swimming, cycling, and triathlons. He has completed Ironman Cozumel, and has participated in over 20 marathons in his career, including marathons in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Colorado, New York, Greece, Brazil, and China. Dr. Gonzalez is married to his lovely wife Liliana, and together they have one son, David Alexandro. Dr. Gonzalez is very kind, and easy to talk to, and he is a good listener too.
